The secret to the hang test is to put your hand on the highest possible rung. Lots of people think they have to hung way out on the side. Make it so you put more weight on your legs than on your arm. They just want to see you up on that ladder, they arent testing you on how diagonal you can go away from the ladder. Another idea, dont wear lose fitting gloves. NS thinks that railroading is all 75 degree dry season road work and hasnt fully accepted the fact that they run up north now. So humor them and wear batting gloves or something with a grippy rubber handprint to help you cinch on to the grab iron. I took this test a few years ago and it was stressful but easier with these two hints.
