I am sure many engineers are as I heard the trains go by. If you have seniority do you have today off. I am sure days off go by that. But may get double time and a half if you work today too. People know what there job entails before they go into it though and make that choice.
This may be a bad thing about railroad work working on holidays. Then again you do get to go to town when the crowds aren't there as well.
