After a long delay the Erie Lackawanna Dining Car Preservation Society's 10-6 sleeping car, Nickel Plate Road "City of Lima" is scheduled to start its move from Midwest Locomotive in Kansas City to Madison, IL today, Nov. 19. Kansas City Southern is scheduled to be picked up Sunday morning at 9:00AM... Interchange to BNSF should be made by 1700 Sunday afternoon.

The ELDCPS would like to get photos of this car as it moves for the first time in its Nickel Plate Road colors. If you are out chasing along the way, please keep an eye for this car - reporting marks are RPCX211. The Society will send the 2007 Erie Lackawanna calendar to the best photo image we receive.

Thanks,
Tim Stuy

The Erie Lackawanna Dining Car Preservation Society's NKP 10-6 Pullman "City of Lima" (RPCX 211) has been picked up by the Kansas City Southern in KC this morning and should be moving across the KCS (Gateway Western) to East St. Louis around 5:30 tonight. The car will eventually be interchanged with the UP for movement to Illinois Transit Assembly in Madison, IL.

We hope that if anyone happens to see the car, they will send us some photos of the car in transit.

Our Nickel Plate Road Pullman sleeper, City of Lima is now at Illinois Transit Assembly Corp. (ITAX) in Madison, Ill. ITAX will be be attending to the interior renovations of the car, including replacement of the carpeting, reupholstery, and repairs to the water and electrical systems.

For the record, the car was picked up from Midwest Locomotive on Dec. 12, 2006 by Kansas City Southern, and moved to their yard in Kansas City, Mo. The car was placed on the rear of train M-KCES on Dec. 14, and arrived at KCS’ ex-Gateway Western yard in East St. Louis, Ill. on the morning of Dec. 15. City of Lima was interchanged to the Terminal Railroad Association of St. Louis on Dec. 20, and was delivered to ITAX on Dec. 21.

We would like to thank Midwest Locomotive, KCS, TRRA, and ITAX for their assistance in moving the car.

A photo of the City of Lima upon arrival at ITAX is posted on our homepage:

The car is safe for now. Illinois Transit Assembly is aware of the heritage of this car and is willing to work with us to see it restored.

As was stated in the newsletter, we don't want to start another project until at least 741 and the City of Lima are completed. Ideally, we would like to partner with an interested related group to take on this project. We can certainly give it a good home and a place to run.
