Thanks for the post about the progress. Besides the "lower Boonton Line" (ex NYGL) that is being turned into the path, does anyone know if there are any plans for the east end of the "Newark Branch", which comes off of the NYGL just west of DB Draw, and then runs through the north side of Harrison and then by the old Clarks Thread complex to the Passaic River? It's only about 3 miles and seems like a natural, but who knows how many zillion that would cost.

Does anyone know if NS still owns that?

I'm not from the North Jersey area, does anyone have a map that can compare the current Montclair-Boonton Line NJT route, and the Old Boontown route, as well as how the Newark Branch connects onto said Old Boontown route?

Speaking of industry and its foothold in NJ politics, Norfolk Southern did get a pretty penny for this route. There is public record of NS donating significant money to NJ local and state officials' campaign funds in recent years, including the governor.

We'll never know if that had anything to do with the state paying $65 million for this property (or if the price tag was justified by the utility potential, as Ken said).

Not sure. Always been talk of including the Newark Branch in some light-rail plans.

I think the light rail talk has been about the tracks on the west side of the Passaic River, not on the East Newark/Harrison side.
