CP Rail was a partner along with a large shipping agent in the Brunterm container terminal here in Saint John from the mid 70's to its exit in 95. They have NO interest in container traffic east of Montreal

I honestly don't know why everyone in Maine is praying for this terminal, look at all the large terminals around the northeast they all are in a downturn (Halifax,Montreal,Boston,New York,Saint John) you want to spent hundreds of millions of dollars to build a terminal to let it sit and rot away?

The ships of today are getting larger and larger and require massive terminals to support them, look at Halifax they need to invest in a new terminal just to keep up with the shipping lines of today.

If you think for one second any shipping line will leave Halifax or Boston or even Montreal to dock at Mack Point your smoking way too much of that special tobacco  they already have the terminals and equipment and are the terminals of choice of shipping lines.

The container market is already over saturated and many smaller terminals are slowly dieing off and for a good example look at Saint John...2 cranes, new dockside support equipment and a warf in excellant condition and we see one ship a week

Mack Point is a pipe dream in a world market of container shipping and a market slowing killing off terminals one by one world wide.

Valid points. The container terminal in Portland has been dormant for the past couple of years. The government (can't remember if it was city, state, federal, or a combination of all three) spent a ton of money on a new crane and assorted other improvements, but now it's a mini ghost town.
