The two surving C-430s went to the LAL. 240, of the RS-1s, is on the Tioga Central in Wellsboro, PA but is currently out of service.

The RS-1's, RS-2's, RS-3's, S-1's S-2's, C-420's, C-430's or which? You have to be a little more specific, about a model type, and time frame......

I thought it was specific enough..
"the alcos that were on this line before the 636s"
every Susquehanna Alco before the 636's..
no need for more specifics than that.

Well, YOU might think that, but if the question is from someone who has only been aware of these things, for the last year, or so, he might very well mean the stuff since 2004. Maybe he was unaware, of the all Alco roster, before the Geeps arrived, and then the takeover, by DO. I will not accept that, Scot, as a viable response. By your take, we could include ANY Alco steam locos, if they were on the roster too, no? I ran a lot of Alcos, while I was an engineer, on the "Q". Before I start to run down the disposition, of the ones I'm aware of, I want to know, that he doesn't mean a specific loco, or has a specific timeframe, in mind. If he wants to know about ALL of them, then I will direct him, to www.dogpile.com , or to read a few books. Just my thoughts, though. Yours, obviously, were a little different........... :-D

GA,
good points! :P

I have been recently working on "NYC/PRR/PC" surviving locomotives list, and the list is up to 500 engines! from three railroads that have been gone 30-40 years..

so from my perspective "susquehanna surviving Alcos" is a piece of cake! ;)
even if you include steam, the total survivor list is probably less than 10 units!

and I believe the answer to "what happened to all the susquehanna Alco steam engines before the 636's?" is "all scrapped".. :(

hmmm..how about a "Susquehanna Railroad Surviving Locomotives List"??
I dont think one exists yet..
could be a combination of the current roster, plus all past locos on the roster, with current status and location..including all scrapped engines.
im up for it! :P

I have never seen a NYSW all-time roster..that would be interesting..is one out there anywhere?

I saw that one..
its actually the *least* complete NYSW roster I have come across! ;)

Here are some of the rosters im using to compile my "all time roster" list so far..

http://www.thedieselshop.us/NYSW.HTML

http://www.joshuakblay.com/nyswsd45.html

im also going through various forums to grab data that doesnt yet exist in any one place..such as the current status of the Twenty B40-8's..
(I couldnt even find how many of them there were originally on the Susquehanna! that info isnt on any of the on-line NYSW rosters...
I found out it was 20 from other lists scattered about the internet..not NYSW rosters)

Don't forget the restored NYS&W 206 owned by the URHS or Tri-State slowly rotting away at the Ridgefield Power plant just across the Riverline from its old stomping grounds.

Why was the M&E able to maintain their C430s well but NYSW gave up and IIRC got rid of their units quickly?

Hi Blockline
M&E's C-430s hardly ever worked up a sweat, being used and lovingly cared for in short line service. The Susquehanna units worked their butts off hauling under powered stack and haulage trains on the Southern Tier. Both roads got 15+ years of service from these near 40 year old units. NYC/PC/CR flogged them for less time than that with even less maintenance. I think it's safe to say the M&E/NYSW owners had their money's worth from them. I know that at least one of them was pride of the fleet on one of the roads.

Cheers
Steve
