Otto, since I have a keen interest in railway operations in the north eastern part of the USA more in partiulare the New York (state), and even more in particular in the Rochester area. So this book looks like a must have!

Where can I find more information on the book like the ISBN number?

Although I got a lot on the area already, I quite frankly never heard of this operation. Judging by the photo I assume it is an interurban but then with an very ambitious name.

Greeting from across the Atlantic

Yes, the NYW&B was a heavy electric high-speed passenger railroad that was built by the New Haven. It opened in 1912 and closed in 1937- a scant 25 years. Until the new web site is in order, please check out the numerous resources regarding "the Westchester" here:

Is this book a reprinting of his first book or a whole new thing?

Is this book going to be like the one "Westchester's Forgotten Railway"?
I've been trying to find a copy of that book for some time now. (mines falling apart) I think it was lasted printed in 86?

It's amazing how many people don't know a railway even existed there. But the landscape has changed so much that it is hard to find evidence that the railroad was there. That's an excellent site with great pictures. I've been trying to figure out exactly where the Hutchinson River Viaduct was. You can't tell when you're driving on the parkway.

Roger Arcara's "Westchester's Forgotten Railway" is long out of print... but the articles from Railway Age that were reprinted in there are available on-line at nycsubway.org.

There will be some more info on Robert Bang's book in the next couple of weeks...

If you get off at Lincoln Avenue when going southbound and make a left at the stop sign (Or, northbound, get off, make a left, a left onto Lincoln Avenue, and then another left towards Wilson Woods park), you'll pass right between the old abutments that used to support the viaduct.

Arcara's book (all 3 editions, of which the third is most complete) does pop up occasionally on E bay, so check from time to time. I bought a used one in good shape from Kevin Farrell, who occasionally gets them. They are out of print, but potentially available with a little effort.

P.S. Looking forward to Robert Bang's forthcoming book. Any advance order address? If they were out for the New Haven Historical & Technical Association meeting Nov. 12 in North Haven CT ,I bet they would sell a bundle, even as pre-orders. Are they being sold through the Association?

Bob Bang's book will be available through the "usual" channels and local dealers, and some orders direct. We can't make the NHRRTHA show, but Bob will be at Springfield this year. Info will be posted shortly on the web site.
