for anyone looking at this me and my friend were talking about how njt is criminal for dumping the ALP-44's at Hopatcong and he said he found a video of 2 njt alp-44 (unsure if they are O's or E's). The reason they probably aren't ALP-44M's is mainly due to that they were extremely faulty (like #2308 of septa). Anyway, when he found the video it shows 2 alp-44's in a yard stored with Arrow III and newer alp-45/46 equipment. Are they going to be preserved,Scrapped,Used?

There could be at least four of them in good condition, according to this Google maps capture i took.
then again, this could be old and there may be only two left now.

Probably better asked and answered at the NJT forum pages than Amtrak's. Sorry. I have no idea what NJT is going to do.

E - I will second ER and mention NJT ALP44 motors have nothing whatsoever to do with Amtrak.
This post and subject belongs in the NJ Transit Forum.

As an (almost) 18 year member (I joined RR.Net on 2/7/2005) I learned early on that topics need to be posted
in the appropriate Forum locations to solicit feedback replies. If you are not sure where a specific notation or
question needs to be posted do not hesitate to ask for help getting pointed in the right direction>MACTRAXX

I have recently seen that NJT had stored four ABB ALP-44's in Kearny MMC. Are they being used for MoW, are they getting ready for preservation? The reason I ask is this:

Why put four in the maintenance center? We all know they were retired because they couldn't haul the multi-levels, so why didn't they recieve the same fate as most of them? I just need the answers (let's hope for preservation)

That screen shot is from Apple Maps and their satellite images are at least 3 to 4 years out of date. One way to tell is that Hudson Yards across the river is still just breaking ground on the satellite image.

Mod Note the Amtrak forum thread has moved from Amtrak to NjT forums, and NJT info consolidated into one thread.

That actually depends on which iOS version you're using and what area of the country you're looking at. On regions that have "Flyover" (3D) imagery, the data is indeed quite old, but regions without it or devices on iOS 14 (or older) will show pretty up to date stuff (usually about a year old).

This picture is indeed from Flyover territory (you can tell it's clearly been tilted and isn't straight down plus there are some artifacts that give it away). Here's the same view with up to date imagery:

As for why these might be around, they were paid for with federal money and approval had to be received to dispose of them. See this post from a year ago: post1590040.html#p1590040
