Brendan, go to http://www.bartlettroundhouse.org" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; and scroll down looking on the left hand side and you will see the year 2013. Click that and there are many photos of work being done to the plow. The plow has received a second coat of MEC green paint this summer. It is hoped that we can get a few more work sessions in and finish up the opposite side of the plow, which is now covered by tarp. No work has been done to the Roundhouse this year. The new roof is holding up just fine. There should be some sill work done inside to the back of stall 1 sometime before this winter sets in.

Hi Brendan, go to the Society webpage http://www.bartlettroundhouse.org" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; and scroll down until you see 2013 appear on the left side. Click on it and it will show you all the work on the plow to date. The Roundhouse is owned by the State of NH and only licensed contractors can do work on it. The Roundhouse has remained the same now for the past few years.

Thanks, I saw the web site and the face book, great work guys, really looking good. I wish I could be in two places a once, I did the structural wood work to the wood plow that is in service on the valley RR in CT. There is a video of it plowing snow on YouTube, right after we finished it. Sorry I don't know how to post the link. It looks like your doing a great Job up there. Is the round house ever open for the public to see, can one visit the grounds? Brendan

One of the last remaining buildings from the Portland & Ogdensburg Railway, the Bartlett Roundhouse structure was completed between 1887 and 1888. Originally six stalls, the building housed helper engines for the system plus a single logging/yard engine. It was later acquired by the Maine Central Railroad and was altered to meet new needs. Two stalls were removed and later two were elongated for bigger machines. With the decline of steam at the middle of the century, the building fell dormant. The Bartlett Roundhouse Preservation Society has been working to save this historic structure. We are pleased to have provided them with as-built documentation to further their efforts. Here are two renderings of the proposed rehabilitated structure. The green is the original P&O colors and the yellow scheme is for the Conway Scenic Railroad who operates on the adjacent active railroad. Please visit both their pages to learn more about what each does to conserve our railroading heritage! By Ryan Hayward: The Preservation Collaborative.
