General discussion about locomotives, rolling stock, and equipment

I was perusing the Talgo website and was quite surprised to see they offer the XXi as a FRA-compatible trainset. Are any of these running anywhere else in the world yet? I don't believe it is a true high-speed train, but it also doesn't seem to fit the traditional commuter lines, either. Obviously they have targeted someone with this, and I can't imagine they would think Amtrak is in a position where they will be purchasing new stock. SO I wonder if this consist could be made smaller, say 3 or four cars, for more local intercity traffic.

Somehow, I could see this as the replacement for the aging E60CP and E60CHs. I do not see any commuter liners picking up something like this though. One reason is that it would cost some commuter lines so much money that it would be useless to buy them. Another reason is that some of the lines that commuter lines run on are run by other railroads like BNSF or CSX or UP et al. Most commuter lines here aren't built to handle that kind of speed.
