There was a post about Synergy Gas and the fact that it does not use rail service, even though it has a spur, because the Town of Crookhaven (that's not a typo....) banned the shipment of LPG through the Town. Why did the Town do that, and how come there is no restriction on the transport of LPG by the much more accident-prone trucking industry? Also, if shipping LPG by rail through the Town is banned, how does NYA get away with servicing the LPG customer in Bridgehampton? Isn't there an LPG customer out in Riverhead as well? Thanks.
Shipments of LPG are not banned, the angle the town used is to prohibit the delivery of LPG to Synergy at that location via rail. Local politics has no legal bearing on rail shipments, as they have no jurisdiction over Interstate commerce, although at times they believe they do.
