Surviving B&M equipment

Many of the coaches on the Strausburg RR are ex- B&M.

Somewhere on the old Claremont & Concord there is an old engine house with a coach beside it.

Also in Gorham, there is an old six wheeler painted CN, although it came from an industry in Everett Ma, but its tender came from a B&M Mogul.
In the Charlestown shipyard near Boston, are two box cars. A dream fermenting within a historical group was to obtain and restore them, either because they either once were, or resemble, a series of Boxcars owned by the B&M.
Finally, I heard a story about a forgotten tender on a siding somewhere in Ohio, from a engine the B&O obtained from the B&M, which would make it. an R-1 Mountain tender.

In Plymouth NH there is a boxcar on a siding cut from the main, and up in Lincoln yard there is a B&M milk car

You have an old B&M box car sitting in Concord, NH which is used by NEGS for storage of tools and stuff. There's also an old B&M coach car sitting in someone's yard in Tyngsboro, MA not far from the Tyngsboro Bridge.

There was a B&M coach in someones yard on Rte 2a in the Ayer /Shirley area.
The late Mel Clark, equipment and truck dealer, had several MeC steel cabeese and a wooden B&M bobber (see Gilberts B&M caboose book) scattered throughout his several yards in North Hampton NH. I don't know about the MeC stuff, but I heard the Bobber went to some property he owned in Northern Maine Jct.

According to an article in the Ellsworth American newspaper a few weeks ago, a wooden boxcar reported to be of MEC heritage was recently acquired by the Downeast Scenic Railroad and delivered to Washington Junction on the former MEC Calais Branch in Ellsworth Maine. It will be used as a tool car for the excursion operation planned between Ellsworth and Dedham, Maine.

There is a B&M boxcar on a siding in Montpelier, VT. It is near Sarducci's restaurant and the river.

The CT Trolley Museum in East Windsor also has a B&M boxcar. Not sure how it would have gotten there.

Things that I know of, off the beaten path in Eastern New Hampshire:

-MEC 40' boxcar. Rochester, NH left behind for Blue Seal in the 80s.
-B&M 50' possible milk car/plug door (former McGinnis black & blue) Rochester, NH behind Blue Seal.
-B&M steel modern C-type buggy. Alton, NH
-Unknown 40' steel boxcar hulks Dover, NH PAR division grounds.
-40' wood boxcar frame near turntable in Sanbornville (rapidly disappearing)
-Pre-heavyweight wood coach/combine frame, (altered to building) old Portsmouth, NH roundhouse
-BAR 40' steel boxcar, Loudon Rd. Concord, NH

The MBTA Commuter Rail Division has a wide variety of former B&M and MEC freight cars that were left behind when the T and B&M parted company. out between BET and former yard 14 you will find an old MEC ACF covered hopper and a former B&M PS-2 covered hopper, both formerly in BET sand service. At the car shops at BET is a former B&M 50 ft PS-1 boxcar now painted white and off its trucks, used as a tool shed. Up on the "Paint Shop Lead" adjacent to the Fitchburg mainline are a 50 ft B&M milk car and a very old 36 ft B&M hopper car that is rumored to be formerly Pennsylvania RR before that. Then there are the two ex B&M PS-1 40 ft boxcars that used to be at the Boston Navy Yard that the T acquired recently. Also, not to be forgotten, are the two Budd RDC-2's over in old Yard-2 (everybody keeps calling them "Boise Budds", which they are not!) these are left over from the aborted crew quarters scheme of a few years ago.

Its sad really, that we are searching for relics from a railroad that was once a dynamic part of the New England economy and one of the biggest employers in the city of Boston, now just a memory.

Rumor on the Guilford forum is that a B&M pullman is heading to New England this July...

This crane is still in Fitchburg Yard, along with 2 40' boxcars and a 50' milk car.
