How many places are there in the Keystone State that have, or had, street trackage used for freight?

I know of the following locations:

-- Erie. Nickel Plate, now NS. 19th St. (Has this been removed yet?)

-- Middletown. (Middletown & Hummelstown) runs 1/2 mile

-- Morrisville. Runs on a road along the Delaware River. This one goes under the NEC and is easily visible from there.

-- West Brownsville. Runs for several blocks down a small-town main street.

The following come from a website called "The Lakewood Branch"
http://www.mannresearch.com/lakewood/strun.html
The site hasn't been updated for a while, so I'm not sure which ones are still in use.

-- Elizabeth. (CSXT; ex-P&LE)

-- Philadelphia. 3 locations:
(PRR) Delaware Ave; N/S along river (now in a median).

The City Branch ran east of Broad St. to junction w. Delaware Ave trackage.

Also, Conrail had double track on Washington St. until 1990.

-- Scranton. (Delaware-Lackawana)

-- Tyrone. (Nittany & Bald Eagle??)

-- York. (Maryland & Pennsylvania) On Pershing St.

I operated my speeder on some street trackage (couple blocks) in Shamokin (spur to coal breaker) and in Berwick for two or three blocks, traffic lights and all down the center of the street, the spur served a large former RR freight car manufacturing factory. Both sections were still in use for freight to the respective breaker and factory.

In addition to median track on Delaware Ave, the South Philly port area (Phila Belt Line) still has a few sidings, piers, and even a line customer or two.

Another, long forgotten location , in Erie, was on E.10th. st. The Pennsy had a line which ran off of their lakefront line, curving east between 10th.and 11th.street, and running to the Downing road area. A small stretch still exist, just west of Downing, coming out of the former Hammermill Paper works. Not sure, but think it is still used occasionally, used by CSX and coming off the mainline and crossing E.12th.st. to connect with it. About a block east of Doening, still on E.10th. st., the East Erie Commercial {GE owned ] used to run from about Bacon St., to the GE plant. They served a coal company, long since gone .[Woodel Coal or similar spelling.]This track was gone in the 70's or 80's.
BTW, I've also been having computer problems. Don't know if I picked up a virus or it's just wearing out. Went to tech support and sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't.

Warren, Pa - 4th Ave. during NYC, PC and the Allegheny RR. I think they stopped running it around 1990 or so.

Clearfield PA had two, now one.

1. Pennsylvania RR had a track which ran in the middle of the street for I think 4 blocks. Track entered the street at a T intersection, ran down the middle of stem of the T past the passenger station. Continued on for a few blocks, then at another T intersection the track left the street. That's been gone for several years now. This track was embedded in the pavement, rather like a street car track.

2. On the other side of the river, the BR&P/B&O, now R J Corman track entered a street at a T intersection and ran up the middle for a few blocks to another T. The street is split into two narrow streets, one on each side of the track. There are curbs between the street(s) and the track, and the track is not paved over. It is still in use.

At one time there was a siding off that second track which led into a 3 or 4 track yard near the fairground. The Strates Shows train would be parked there each time it came to play the county fair. I think, but am not sure, that that track ran in a street for a short distance on its way to the yard.

In Norristown, along the ex-RDG, now Septa R6 and south (east) of Dekalb Pike, trackage that ran adjacent to the main and into several warehouses can still be seen, and the original ROW is still intact. Up until the recent redevelopment, there was also quite a bit of industrial street trackage along the same line in Conshohoken. In Philly, there is still some abandoned trackage that runs down the middle of North American Street that was part of the RDG Erie Avenue branch. This trackage was actually installed in the 70's as part of an industrial redevelopment project that never materialized. Not far away, there is also some trackage along Tioga Street in Kensigton that swung off of the PRR branch from Frankford Jct. and used to run all the way to the Delaware River.

The Warren, PA (4th St) track was removed perhaps seven or eight years ago. The remainder of the line through N Warren was converted to a rail trail.

Brooks,

Thankfully, the trackage that is shown in the photo of the Conrail SD40s at Clearfield is still very-much in use by RJ Corman. Today, you can still see SDs and Geeps hauling coal on the ex-BR&P/B&O through town.
