Into an argument on the correct name for the drive train on the wheel of a steam locomotive. My memory is that it was called the "driver's maid" other side says I am making it up.
Is my memory that bad?

Hello and welcome to the forum.Maybe you are thinking of the old Chuck Berry song about Johnny B. Goode ? "He used to sit in the shade listening to the sound the drivers made. " good song. Joe

Can you be more specific? "...the drive train on the wheel...."

Not quite sure what you're talking about as it could refer to several things. If nothing else, perhaps you can point me to a photo we can look at on some web site.

1. Yes! it started from the Chuck Berry song - but I am certain that I had been told that was the reference.
2. I assumed it was the coupling from the drive shaft to the main wheel that followed the wheel around its traverse, pushing the wheel around and thus the train forward. Hence "Driver's Maid"
