No grade crossings on the main from Buffalo southwards? Were they added again later, because I can think of at least a dozen on the DLW main in half an hour of me. Perhaps this is just in urban areas?

I believe there were a number of grade crossings in western NY, at least in Livingston and Steuben Counties. Right off the cuff, I can think of Peoria Rd, a couple miles north of Leicester, NY; in Leicester at Rte. 20A; Mt. Morris at Rte 408 just east of the station; Pioneer Rd. just west of Groveland (you can see this one from I-390 south, you practically pass over it near the Sonyea exit); Sawdust Rd. east of Wayland Station; West Main St. in Atlanta; Rte 415 (old US 15) and Mill St. in Cohocton; Rte 415 just south of Wallace.
