When/why did UP tear out the spur on the boulder branch near the Town Square mall? The side tracks and bumpers are still in place along side the warehouses but the spur is gone (ballast still there but no trace of spur at all). Crossbuck posts and UPRR police signage still around too. This spur came off the Boulder Branch just a smidge east of where it crosses the I-15. UP totally obliterated that spur. Looking at the old arials it looks like the branch was there in the early 1980s but nothing parked on it and trees growing thru the rails.

And while on the subject of the Boulder branch when/why was the north leg of the wye connection to the mainline removed?

Believe that spur served a Chemical plant at 1 time in the past, that had some how a fire/explosion event, destroyed
the facilty, along with some tank cars. This might have been a "forced" abandonment after that event.
You might be able to find the news reports in the newspaper archives some where in the Las Vegas Public Libary system.
Do not rememder the year it happened.
