Does anybody have an experience with the dobbler type speed system?
Is it any good on a locomotive application? I would think snow
may cause problems....
Looking to install a speed indicator on a SW900.
I would have to fabricate something to hold the axle alternator for a traditional speed system since it has plain bearing boxes converted to Timken rollers. Don't think it would be to bad of a job though...
Thanks.

I presume you mean DOPPLER (radar) speed measuring equipment?

We have several pieces of farm equipment (tractors, sprayer, combines, etc) with factory installed doppler speed measuring equipment. The indicators are very accurate (claimed to be +/- 0.1 mph of true ground speed) and quite robust.

Don't know whether snow would be a problem. However the sensor heads become warm when in operation - suspect they would tend melt any snow getting on the head in all but the worst blizzard conditions.

Who makes 'em? I don't have a clue! You might inquire at a John Deere ag equipment dealer however. ...FB

yup thats it..
Bach Simpson makes them...
I guess they are ok in light snow.. but not in heavy snow or ice....
