They already have it figured out, the real question is, will they ever be allowed to? The only answer we have now is that we can only hope, for the sake of the project and the taxpayer money that has already been spent on it.

Doesn’t really mean anything to me until service actually starts. It’s great to see it fully built, but it’s meaningless without the actual service. It’s like opening up a supermarket for the first time, but without food and customers.

Besides which, if MBTA and local authorities don't establish tight security it could turn into a vandals' playground requiring extensive rehab before it even opens.

One would have to guess that this was done for outgoing Gov. Charlie Baker, who will be out of office in less than a month. Surely another ribbon cutting will take place with the new governor when the line opens.

Some of the photos also show how the new MBTA Commuter Rail map incorporating the extension will look. Strangely enough, on this map, the purple line running from Braintree to Middleborough is labeled as "Middleborough Line", then after the two branches split they are each labeled as "Fall River Line" and "New Bedford Line", why would it still say "Middleborough Line" when that would not even be an existing service anymore?
Here is the map if you are wondering: https://www.abc6.com/content/uploads/20 ... scaled.jpg

My guess would be to prevent confusion from current Middleborough Line riders as they get used to the line having a different name. On the north side, I see Rockport via Beverly and Reading via Oak Grove as destinations on the departure board, so Fall River via Middleborough might be how they play to display it on the board at South Station.
