I was watching some of the horseshoe curve webcam and a train 61N was described as a steel slab train daily from Farrel Pa. to Paulsboro N.J.
Is it still 61N when in south jersey and what is the info on the steel slab loads? Where are they to and from, and what are they used to manufacture? Thanks for any and all info. Just curious.

Although I don't have any first hand knowledge of destination, from Google Maps I only see two possibilties in Paulsboro. RR Construction Co. has a large yard there and the other is the yard at the dock in the Billingsport section of town.

Origin is the new Paulsboro port. It's Russian steel from regular inbound ships

Why are we importing Russian steel? I am happy we have a new port in Paulsboro, but why are we using it for imports instead of exports?

WPCA51 had a huge train of 60 cars today with three engines for power. CSX's 6201, 6238, and NS 5207 lugged 18 cars of stone, 4 box cars, and 38 tank cars south down the Beesleys.

Is this the first stone of the season? Given the continued curfew on the AC rail line, is SRNJ able to operate on the line?

I'm assuming the tanks were headed to CMSL for storage.

No, the stone has not stopped, just changed from unit trains to cuts on 38G-CA51.

Any conjecture on the stone's destination?

I believe it typically goes to A E Stone in Egg Harbor Township.

I couldn't recall the name of the facility that recieves the stone loads along the line into Pleasantville, but I believe Glenn is correct.

As mentioned, CA-51 has taken over the roll of NS 62X, and is now bringing the stone to SRNJ in Winslow. The Winslow Hot Mix plant along the former CNJ Southern Division was also receiving stone loads for a while. It's been quite a few years since that has taken place. I'm not 100% positive if that facility is even still in business.

A.E. Stone is the customer in Pleasantville and the Winslow Hot Mix plant has received stone as recent as this past Fall of 2018.

Today’s return trip to Camden along the Hainesport Industrial Track (formerly the Pemberton Branch aka “Back Road”) saw CSX GP38-2S #6157 (ex Western Maryland) leading a cut of 19 cars, which is a fairly large train for this particular line. I shot them crossing Forklanding Road while passing the former Maple Shade station this afternoon. The Maple Shade station was built in 1867 and was originally named “Stiles”. The last passenger train to utilize the line and station was in April of 1969. Today, the Hainesport Industrial handles freight Monday through Friday.

Yesterday’s daily manifest train (NS 38G) saw Norfolk Southern’s “Pennsylvania Railroad Heritage Unit” #8102 doing the honors of leading the train into South Jersey. Unfortunately for me, I was stuck at work and was not able to be around to load up on pictures. However this morning, the same power that brought the train in, was now being used to take the outbound train (NS 39G) out. I arrived along the outskirts of Pavonia Yard to see the PRR Heritage Unit behind a Union Pacific leader, making their way through the freight yard to begin the work of assembling their train.

-Here we see the PRR Heritage Unit with Pavonia Yard’s engine house and sanding tower in the background:

-NS 39G along NJ Transit’s 36th St station parking lot with a Union Pacific leader and the PRR Heritage trailing:

-Two nice roster shots of the Pennsylvania Heritage Unit (note the former Pavonia Yard catenary support pole in the first shot behind #8102):

-As if having the PRR Heritage Unit on NS 39G(4/2) yesterday wasn't enough, today's outbound manifest train saw the DC to AC conversion unit NS #1800! #1800 was trailing an ex Conrail Dash 8 widecab, seen here along 36th St:

Profile shot of NS #1800 which was originally built in 1994 as NS #2537 (SD70), and rebuilt in 2018 as NS #1800 (SD70ACC):
