I recall the crossing of Genesee St and that little signal. I may have taken pictures of it but it is long lost. I never saw rail traffic going across Genesee st. I also recall riding my bike inside the Westinghouse "yard" and following the tracks around. All that infrastructure inside the fence was amazing. Wish I had taken pictures of that. But I wasn't hooked on rails just yet.
There is also another spur that cuts across Genesee St. It's located on the west side of Calspan and crossed Genesee St into the west side of the Westinghouse Plant. You can probably see it from the Erie County aerial webpage. I haven't been that far down the WSRR in a very long time so that little bridge across the ditch may or may not still be there. Taking a view from Google...It might be inside the fence but I don't see it. Next comes the spur to the former Peter J Schmit[sp] still there. I also remember the pre-fab stack near Dick Rd.
Do you remember that old red brick home on the corner of Buell and W. Sobieski? It was an awesome structure from way back before the airport [farm land]. It looked abandoned and I really wanted to go in and explore it but it was also so spooky looking. Couldn't really verify if it was occupied or not. Years later, they tore it down. I would guess the WSRR was maybe 100 feet from the house. What a loss. But that's what Buffalo does.
