Last weekend, we stopped in Niantic. There is an abandoned track running from the NE Corridor across the main street and into a grassy area.

Was this an industrial siding? A station siding? A branch line off the NH main?

That was just a fairly lengthy freight spur that ran north to (as I recall) a lumber yard. There were no branches off the Shore Line in that area.

Thanks, Tom. I'd never seen reference to passenger service off the main and "into" Niantic, but...you never know.

Pretty sure I've seen pics of that siding/branch/spur in use in recent months. P&W provides the freight service through there.
