One individual said to be in critical condition

DARBY, Pa. — Seven people have been injured, one critically, after a Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority trolley collided with a CSX freight train on Thursday morning, KYW-TV reports.

The Philadelphia Inquirer, which earlier had reported six injuries — to the operator and five passengers — reports an eastbound trolley on Route 11, from Darby to 13th and Market streets, was struck at about 8:30 a.m. at 6th and Main streets in Darby, where the trolley line crosses the CSX tracks. Images on the KYW website show the trolley stopped adjacent to container cars on the CSX line. WPVI-TV reports a total of 20 people were on board the trolley.

CSX said in a statement that there were no injuries on its train and no leaks or spills were reported. “We extend our thoughts to those involved in this incident and will support law enforcement as they investigate,” the statement reads.

The picture seems to indicate that the trolly track frogs appear to be the jump type? On freight RR are trains limited to 10 MPH? The other item is what is the crossing signal timing? Is SEPTA limited to ~ 10 MPH? What is the timings of the gate activation start? What is the time between the start of bell and lights until gates start coming down? How much time between start gates lowering and train crossing street?

Then other questions, Wet leaves? brake effectiveness, cross signal black box dump, reliability of signals. I suppose NTSB will have more questions.

Channel 6 Television aerial photos show the right front handrails on the Southbound locomotive are bent, and the crossing gate is resting on top of the middle of the Eastbound trolley. The trolley is damaged on its right front corner.
At this crossing, the streetcars is about 25 years senior, 1859 - about 1884.

9070 would get repaired cause look what happened when 9061 crashed in 1988 it got repaired and went back into service i think within a week it took to repair 9061

It looks like the trolley operator pulled too close to the intersection to check for the train as was unable to move once the gates came down. Trolleys cannot easily back up.

The train track at that intersection crosses at an angle so you have to pull real close to see in both directions.
