Hope that everybody has a good Thanksgiving!

Results for this period are:

TOTAL TRAINS = 616
ON TIME = 322 (52%)
LATE = 294 (48%)
AVERAGE DELAY = 44"

Of the late trains:
51% were 29" or less late;
23% were 30" to 59" late;
19% were 1' to 2' late;
5% were more than 2' late; and
2% had no arrival time shown.

BY ROUTE, WITH ON-TIME % AND AVERAGE DELAY:

CAPITOL LIMITED
#29 - 38% - 1"18"
#30 - 38% - 44"

CARDINAL (WAS)
#51 - 54% - 33"

(E) - 47% - 24"

ST. LOUIS CORRIDOR
(W) - 79% - 19"
(E) - 85% - 1' 16"

BUFFALO CORRIDOR
(W) - 7% - 44"
(E) - 60% - 36"

KANSAS CITY CORRIDOR
(W) - 53% - 25"
(E) - 60% - 36"

Results for this period indicated a slight deterioration in performance. The only services to show improvement in both measured categories were the westbound Cardinal, eastbound Pennsylvanian, and southbound City of New Orleans.

Of particular interest is the difference in directional performances on a route as shown by that of the Cardinal, and the DET and BUF Corridors.

The extreme delay of the northbound City of New Orleans was caused by a single awful trip.

Checking the delay causes as posted by Amtrak on its Twitter sites, we find:

AMTRAK EQ. = 58
HOST CARRIER = 144
3RD PARTY INTERFERENCE = 21
WEATHER = 20
AMTRAK HOLDS = 9
UNFORESEEN CREW ISSUE, N.O.S. = 2
CAUSE NOT GIVEN = 127
TOTAL = 380

The total is only for the trains included in the review, and the unspecified causes are for delays of 30" or more, not for all delays shown.

Given the federal reporting for the new standards of computing OT performance, the next several periods of review should be interesting. However, given past sub-par performance -- especially on those corridors on which great expense has already been made -- any substantial increase would truly be a miracle.

Stay safe everybody.
