The B&M for many decades had roadside signs at both ends of its overpasses which read, "This Bridge Unsafe for Legal Loads of Over . . . Tons." There was additional wording as well, which I can't remember but the gist of which was that drivers exceeding the limit were doing so at their own risk.

These signs were white with black lettering that was in the block font long characteristic of the B&M. I haven't seen one in many years. Are there any still standing? I've never seen one on eBay --- I'd give my right arm to buy one.

I recall seeing one in Dover at that bridge that goes over the mouth of the yard, but that was a while ago... not sure if it's still there.

Maine Central had similar signs.
