OAK RIDGE, Tenn. — An engine and caboose on the Secret City Excursion Train derailed Saturday afternoon. No one was aboard caboose and one of the train's engines, which were located at the end of the train, according to Oak Ridge Police Chief David Beams, and no one aboard the rest of the train's cars were injured.

While it appears that no passengers were injured, an incident like this could raise liability insurance costs for other tourist railroads. Depending on the cause of the derailment, there could be "rules and regulations" regarding track, equipment, etc.

Possibly the worst quote ever to get from museum officials... "Our prettiest engine went down." Nothing about passenger safety. Or, the editor picked up on "pretty" and ignored "safety."

The Southern Appalachia Railway Museum operates the train. Club members said their next move will be to figure out what went wrong. "That was our prettiest engine. We just painted it a couple of years ago and it's obviously going to be scratched up on that side," said member Dick Raridon. "It's going to take a good size crane to lift that thing back up and figure out what happened and make sure it doesn't happen again."

I'd be curious to know what caused a roll-over!

At this point, word is that possible wide gauge on a curve may have been the culprit.
