Second derailment in Hyndman PA

Nothing like continuing to run 175 car trains down that sandpatch grade when temps range between high 20s daytime and single digits at night. Must be a Hunter Camp alumnus in charge of that division. Amtrak 29's original consist sits in Cumberland in Service Disruption, probably will be pulled back to DC. Amtrak 30 turned in Pittsburgh to become 29, with 42 probably carrying the long distance EB riders today.

With the major derailment in Hyndman PA and numerous other large and not
so large derailments throughout the system, those CSX stockholders must not
be quite so happy as when EHH shifted into high gear. However, barring some
Megantic type disaster, they just consider these incidents as costs of doing
business.

Thankfully only 4 [hazmat] railcars involved without leaks. Close call!

I can't see much unhappiness in the current stock price. For me, it's still not worth buying. It's down from its peak less than a month ago, but still about twice what it was less than 2 years ago before the rumors of new management started.

The probable cause is listed as:

...the inappropriate use of hand brakes on empty rail cars to control train speed and the placement of blocks of empty rail cars at the front of the train consist, leading to elevated longitudinal forces and increased lateral forces at the wheel-rail interface at the curve in the rail on the leading 42 cars combined with tread buildup on the 35th car, which was the first to derail. Contributing to the derailment were CSX operating practices that accepted the use of hand brakes on empty rail cars to control train speed and allowed blocks of empty rail cars to be placed at the front of the train consist.
