"Some rail passengers are resorting to perching on toilet seats in cramped carriages during the one-hour trip from Kapiti to Wellington".
looks like the best seat in the house is been snapped up .
This long distnce commuter run is becoming a victim of its own success .The carriages are ex British rail mark ii"s , completely rebuilt in nz .

Needs longer trains? How many carriages does it have now? Is the line electric?

its 7 or 8 carriages long . 2 wre out of service . the problem would be it only makes one return trip a day . its probably not cost effective to add more carriages unless theyre going to be full most the time .
the thing is for 1/2 its run its probably 1/2 empty , then as it reaches wellingtons suburbs it gets full . the answer is probably to run a train just to the welington suburbs .
It is deisel hauled all the way , though it does pass under cantenary for the last 50 k's into Wellington .
