Well this is interesting because I was there Monday and there was a crew working on pulling old ties on the "main" leading up to the loading dock that was built for replacement. Wonder what's going on.

Friend and I rode the dome round trip out of Saratoga Springs last week. Could not have been more pleased. The equipment was nice and clean and staff very friendly. Best ride in years, even better than the 765 Horseshoe Curve trip. Will be writing a letter of thanks and hope to be back next year. Th...

For more than thirty years after the Lehigh Valley folded into Conrail, a former Lehigh Valley semaphore has watched over the former Lehigh in Cortland, NY. On a trip back to the area I have noticed its now gone. It was formerly associated with the crossing with the Lackawanna Syracuse Branch and wa...
Neat clip. Just about all, if not all, these engines are preserved. Most at the B&O Museum, the 2-4-0 is at the California RR Museum. The 4-4-0s depicting Promontory are around too. There was a second half with more modern power, ironically most are gone. Among those were streamlined hudsons fro...
Cortland Junction also had a small roundhouse to serve local switchers and the Cincinnatus Branch power after servicing was from Cincy proper. The turntable at the Jct. remained in place until the late 1950s, early-mid 1960s. With the end of steam, engine servicing was moved to the freight house are...
Wasn't the west end of the PRR Octoraro Branch pretty damaged, in particular west of Chadds Ford- heard of cars being craned out to the Reading W&N line at the junction site?
How about the PRR north of Hamburg?

Cooperstown branch in place to 80/28 crossing- AKA Glen Avenue. DO/NYSW removed the piece through the crossing to the maroon equipment and sold the property to the former Agway. There is some interest in getting trains across the road again but time and money.... The Cooperstown & Charlotte Vall...
From what I heard the passenger service hadn't run in a few years at least.

I live in PA, and will be making a trip to Oneonta in the fall. I'll go the extra distance to make a trip on the S&NC, but I sure wouldn't do that for a bike trail.

116 was a very well liked engine on the line and I spent many hours working on/with her from day one. We were sad to see her go and were hoping that LRHS/CACV would be the recipient after Mr. Rich's passing but it was not to be- at least she's close to O&W territory and was not cut up. The SD45
From the get go it was planned that people would want to take advantage of using the RR to ride into Cooperstown, and the first season had a very aggressive schedule. This has not panned out at all, people preferred to drive right into Cooperstown. It seems hard enough to get people to ride it for a...
206 made it as far north as Marathon on the Syracuse Branch for display during a Maple Fest during the 1980s. Per Railpace the plan was to use her in service on the ND but it sounds like a mechanical problem but the ax to that idea. Would like to know if she ever ran on the ND before the defect rear...
The NYS&W in Cortland has been up to some neat stuff in the past ten years or so. Rebuilt a portion of the DL&W Cincy branch (2-3 miles were in place) and another mile and half or more was relaid on right of way and some virgin ground! In the same vicinity, they laid a passing siding to the ...
