Rolling display piece within the rail yard.
The smokebox has been completed with all railings being installed. Work on the cab is ongoing with the electrical conduit and appliances being installed such as switches and lighting.

And as another update, OBRM has started the task of putting #35 back together. While final details on our contract with Nex Gen Rail are being put together, our yard crew has begun to put the boiler exterior back together. This past Saturday saw the repaired smoke stack installed atop the smokebox a...

nkloudon wrote: Mon Apr 25, 2022 4:48 pm So, what ever happened to the big plans for Strasburg to rehab #35?
#35 had no association with the Strasburg RR until 2023 when the SRR Co. bid on some worK FOR OBRM.
SRR Co has the boiler for #39 on its grounds for many years as a part of an agreement with RMLI, not with OBRM.

Since the last post I read was dated in 2022, here’s an OBRM update for 2023 that’s been featured on our Facebook page. We now have the ability for operations within museum grounds. Track 3 has been installed. Our master fabricator John P got our GR 25 tonner #26 (Theodore Roosevelt) operable last y...

PF: There is no way Suffolk County taxpayer funds will be used on the #39 now that it is no longer on LI. With #35 at OBRM there could be a way for a "grant" of some sort for preservation and upgrade from NC. Using regular tax funding or a dedicated tax from Nassau County is not going to ...

Re: Suggestion: Send 39 and 35 to Cheyenne

Suggestion after speaking with a friend: send LIRR 39 and 35 to Cheyenne so they can be restored by the UP Steam Program at a quicker pace. They can be shipped by rail and UP might be willing to restore more steam engines based on their work with 4014. I'm not sure how viable this idea is, but my f...

Can someone share here a link to a detailed break down of the entire 39 fund? Every dollar raised and spent since the SRC arrangement was enacted? This information should be public but I haven’t seen it and I cannot access RMLI website. I’d like to see where our donations have gone exactly. I belie...

I would hope so Rich. It would be a real shame if her donations intended to restore here was spent on non restoration expenses. Because every dollar counts, and if those dollars are being spent to for example visit her boiler or to sound her whistle on SRC 475 (which frankly sounded beautiful) or o...

Your point being? My point is that LIRR will not allow steam. The reasons are obvious. Are you an LIRR employee? No. You are not. Seems to me that if they were ever going to allow it- they would have been on board for the past two generations. Have they even offered a dime to the cause? Wasn’t that...

Hi, Yes, opinions are like…… everyone has one. That said, all that can be done now is to salvage what’s left of this agreement and see if it can be re-railed before the terms expire. Providing the errors can be righted, and modifications made within reason I don’t see why 39 can’t run at the SRC. T...

Wasn't there a FA cab at the 1964 Worlds Fair LIRR exhibit? Yes, along with a section of an open end observation car, both of which were purchased by the Oyster Bay RR Museum. Unfortunately, the Observation car was too far damaged so it was taken apart and the parts put in storage. the rest of the ...

Hi everyone, Our immediate plans are to complete the restoration of the cab and then re-install in on the firebox. As the Oyster Bay RR Museum is busy wrapping up the turntable project for the year and hopefully forever ,our crews have been busy on other fronts. Dinky #397-the Blue and Grey unit has been getting an interior overhaul in preparation for its use as the display 25 tonner. Once the Turntable has been...

As a question - is there a path in mind for the planned spur to the museum yard
YES! It will be a political and financial football, however we do have an end game.
