Re: The End of the Freight Train

Trains aren't going anywhere.

These types of services are good for high priority traffic that is time sensitive.

Capacity issues alone are enough of a reason freight trains will be here. Railroads may lose time sensitive traffic but that's about it.

A few are already painted in the CN uniform so I guess the answer is whenever CN wants to paint them.

The fact that the very people who run trains don't want to go into management should be a huge red flag that the job is awful and you shouldn't do it.

This list is extremely out of date.

Many of these trains don't exist anymore, there are many new ones and many of your origin/destinations are incorrect.

On Monday to Friday there are 32 VIA between Toronto and Kingston (34 if you include the two J-trains), and because of the J Trains, there are 32 that continue on to Brockville (20 to/from Ottawa and 12 to/from Montreal). I think 12 Ottawa - Montreal. Fewer on the weekends. (2 Toronto-Kingston)(12 T...

Oldest tie stamp nail I have seen is 1938 and that is still holding a customer track at Bloom, Manitoba.

There is rail on the wye at Rivers, Manitoba, still in service, from 1898.

CN did that. That engine you were on probably had the DP software installed on it.

A new to CN C40-8. A few things to point out. CN has changed the seats, changed the positioning of the seats on the conductor's side, added a speaker on the conductor's side, added an overhead light, installed the hotplate and microwave, installed modern electronics above the fridge and installed th...

Conductors on CN in Canada that can hold extended run pools all year can do 120k+. Conductors on the spare board can do that as well but they have to be lucky enough to get a lot of the long runs.

The extra headlight is a higher intensity beam and it helps for better visibility when it's really dark out in rocky/forested areas. It also helps for better visibility at crossings. It does not rotate. All VIA engines have this, even the P42's. The extra set of horns is an emergency set. It is not ...
