Mr. Wolf, "once upon a time" there WAS an SW connection between the NYC Harlem Div & New Haven "West End" and the HGB line located about a half-mile East of the Harlem River X-ing. This enabled FDR, to expediently get from the HGB line without "doubling back" on th...

The EL did run freight to Croxton via the cutoff, Boonton, and Greenwood Lake. The east end of the Greenwood Lake is gone now, so the route as it was is no more.

If you read up on the economics of the building of Grand Central Terminal, you'll find that it was the ability to sell/rent the "air rights" over the trackage in NYC that made it possible to work. Without all the hotels and office buildings paying rent, it would never been financially doab...

It's CSX, anything can go in any direction anytime. You're assuming they were routed correctly, that in itself can be a mistake. Ask MARC about the travels of their coaches being refurbished in New York lately......

The pockets for the move of the motors are deep, but not unlimited. The S motor will go out in one piece, as it was built that way, the T motor will go in three pieces, body, front and rear truck assemblies. Right now, the hold up is placing the cranes and over-the -road trucks on firm ground to hol...

I agree, the times were tough in the 50's - 70's. I don't think those who didn't have to make things run realized the challenges. This story reminds me of a comment about the Adirondack Division that was just ripped up. A fellow I know remarked that they finally got rid of the bad rail "up ther...

The RS-3 will probably go out in pieces, there is so little of it left, and there are many others around the country. Similar fate for the U25B, it's not the "last" one, although it is becoming one of the last ones. Currently the funding to move it isn't there. There are two other S Motors...

I think the tunnel you want to refer to is the L&NE Hauto Tunnel, which was in use till 1969, not the Lansford tunnel, which was a LC&N operation, not a common carrier.
