Re: Green Line Type 10 thread

The opposite of D being made heavy was considered IIRC. Kenmore was built with the loop for light lines to drop passengers who could then transfer to a heavy line. The heavy line would be where the B is now. The middle, B, was built for quick conversion to heavy.

That would make sense, thanks.
I always think nefarious dealing when it comes to the MBTA (as a kid I travelled the Watertown branch), but most of the time it isn't. I can see the SH spur/fly over from my house and think it might have been an opportunity.

I did just find Bromley's 1933 map and the spur is there. The spur served a number of companies, A & P Teas, Russell Boilers (they just moved to Georgia last year) and other businesses to the south.

I can't find any documentation, but they were ripped up about 8 years ago, and the fly over sealed. Cost about $1M to do. The spur led to what is about to become the Glover's Corner project (hundreds of housing units initially proposed - a whole new community). Two of the big issues for that project...

Unsurprisingly, NETransit shows 3705 as damaged beyond repair and 3894 as out of service long term.

Terrific video.
The unfinished spurs opening to the east; what potential service does the T see happening there in the future?

Very cool thanks!
Those passengers departing the trolleys crossing the street wouldn't stand a chance today.
And the backups behind the trolleys would become mayhem now...

<sigh> formerly the Watertown Line. Green Line branch A, which was discontinued in 1969. The car barn there remained and non-revenue runs continued until 1994 as some repairs were still done there. Wikipedia has a good entry on the line. "Green Line A branch". The line was replaced by the ...

Ware's Jewelers was at 311 Center Street, Newton Corner in picture three, now the brick building that used to be Cahner's. That would be Galen coming in on the right. Certainly the fourth picture is the bridge over the as yet unfinished Pike. I think the second is Newton Corner too. The first is fur...

I've wondered too. There used to be a Budd sitting there, which ended up on its side, for the longest time.

Thanks! Too bad there's not a rail link (I know that but was hoping for a surprise).
Will this Orange line pair get a workout on the test track?

Was driving by Cabot Yard this afternoon and saw a new Orange line set sitting the track nearest the channel.
How and why do they get there?

So in this rebuild, everything but the shell is replaced?

Noooo! Not the PCC-color Orange one!
