NS doesn't view these engines as reliable road power so they are basically for yard and local work mostly, now when they need to they will put them on road trains but they try to stay away from that
Yes, very extensive computer system that records everything with a time stamp. It will tell the road foreman everything from what notch the he is in, if he used any braking (independent, automatic or dynamic) speed traveling, what time you pulled emergency handle etc etc, there's basically nothing i...
It's a promotion in the sense that you don't have to pound The rocks anymore, you make a little bit more of a wage and get a performance bonus at the end of the year, but truth be told it's not really a promotion. You are not allowed to regrip or move your hand in any manner, if you do you fail, go to the end of the line an...
There is no guarantee at the NS, you dont work, you dont get paid. I know this first hand, only RR without a guaranteed conductors board
We have a yardmaster who is really metro, to the point that everyone thinks he is gay, we nick named his last name Kardashian, well the yard he works at got redone with some new leads cause they changed the main line in front of the yard, so when ever we call the dispatched to use that lead we tell ...
From my understanding CSX doesnt run DPU trains which is what an engine on the rear or middle of a train would be, a DPU (distributed power unit) so its possible it could have been in tow or they were using it as a run around unit to head back in the opposite direction later on
