In that neck of the woods, that amount of snow is called a dusting. :-D

They did operate a plow-equipped ballast regulator Sunday and Monday, according to the Greenville railcam log.

1029 is on M436 Selkirk-Framingham today (3/23/24) per the B&M Live railcams; passed Chester 11:51AM and Westfield 12:21PM.

west point - no money train (at least in modernish times). I recall a crew driving around in an armored truck to each station and using hand dollies to pick up and drop off sealed metal boxes at the token booths for the revenue collections. Carhouses and bus garages had large vacuum systems that wou...

One silly way to fix this is to put a camera facing forward on the engine that is broadcast over Wifi to the entire consist. Yeah, front row seats for the next grade crossing wreck, suicide, or heck, just Bambi out in the wrong place at the wrong time. Great! Wait until you see the bill for the law...

Aside from a few overhanging trees you can see most of it on Google Maps aerial view. Not a complicated track layout by the looks of it.

I think first of all, a better understanding of what you mean by "drive on sight" - do you mean operating on shared rights of way (i.e. pure street running or center median with frequent grade crossings), or do you mean on private right of way either with no block signaling at all, or sign...

The naming rights experiment I recall was State Street being briefly renamed State/Citizen's Bank, and to further confound and confuse it was only applied on the Blue Line level of the station. Yes, it was a largely ignored epic fail and thankfully (and IMNSHO, rightfully) the concept faded away qui...

1033 was eastbound on CSX M436 to Framingham earlier today (2/10).

Regarding college-inspired railroad paint schemes, there is a possibly urban legend that says when joint management of the Boston and Maine and Maine Central railroads ended in the 1950s, the "Pine Tree Green" that replaced B&M maroon on Maine Central equipment was actually Dartmouth G...

I think RandallW's post above is the most likely reason why CPKC's paint booths haven't been humming churning out new repaints. Maybe someone learned from the "Shouldn't Paint So Fast" episode in the 80s. But regardless of how and when the legal issues are resolved, goodness knows there is...

427 disturbed my slumber in West Boylston this morning at a time I did not bother to look at my clock but would estimate sometime in the 5 AM hour, and by the Westfield and Chester cams in the 9 AM hour.

Your ears did not deceive you - what "sounded like" CSXT 8833 was actually correct. M427's leader today is SD40-2 8833, as evidenced under the watchful eye of the rail cam at Westfield a few minutes prior to this posting.

Are you referring to DSRX 46? They've had that car a while. I don't know its heritage.
