Everyone: After looking at this photo I do agree with the thought that this is in the Stony Brook vicinity with NYS Route 25A behind the train. The LILCO power line poles with the angled crossarms are another location tipoff along with the LIRR pole line which supports the thick cable wire for the ...

Also, what model jet is that in the airline ad? Boeing 720, would be my guess. The short range brother of the 707. TWA never had any 720’s; the plane in the picture may have been a Boeing 707-100 series or alternatively a Convair-880. At a distance it was sometimes difficult to differentiate betwee...

Believe PRR kept a pair of B class switcher motor at NY Penn to switch thru cars to their LIRR connection Believe the Pittsburgh-Montauk train did a power swap at NY Penn and Jamaica(GG-1 to DD-1 to Steam) The GG-1’s did not come on line until the mid-30’s, when the electrification of the NYP - WAS...

On several occasions during the very early ‘70’s I would occasionally take an early evening train from NYP to Manhasset on the PW line. I recall that there was a bar car on that train, that was probably an MP-54. However, I am not certain that Ping Pong cars were ever used on electrified lines.

My 40 + year old recollection is that they were all coaches, but some were converted to "coach club" cars, where about 50 percent of the seats were removed to make way for the service bar, and a standing area on the other side of the car. The original seats were removed and replaced with t...

Yes, I believe that there was seasonal through service from Pittsburgh, and perhaps other points on the PRR to the East End of Long Island, through the 1920’s. A more definitive source than me, will be NYANDW’s monthly updates to his website, which he generally posts in the first few days of each ne...

I would like to add two longtime favorites from my youth, Leo's on Seventh Street in Garden City; it is/was a block away from the GC LIRR station, and Mahoney's on Hillside Avenue in Williston Park. It is no more than 100 yards from The East Williston station. It appears to still be in business. I a...

My recollection is that most of the mid-day trains from East Williston to Flatbush Avenue were only two MP-54's, three at the most.

Wasn't there another meat packer nearby, specifically Milton Abeles & Co? My recollection, which is very dated, is that they operated a facility on the east (northbound) side of Willis between the Oyster Bay and mainline tracks, and had rail service.

Richmond Hill Station on Montauk (?) Branch

For several years during the late '70's, I was working in the Grand Central area, and I traveled on a through train from East Williston to Long Island City. During this time I often wondered why the Richmond Hill Station was relatively up to date, meaning above grade with high level platforms, while...

I can't recall the exact count, but at some point in the mid-60's a good number of the double deckers were modernized. Improvements included new HVAC, windows, lighting and interiors. I believe that 1305 was one of these updated cars. My recollection is that they were pretty sharp.
