You seem to be confusing the EMD 1, 1B and later classed 10 boxcab and the EMD demonstrator 512 boxcab then renumbered 1C That AT&SF often leased while the 1 or 1B were in for modifications. Locomotive with the 50 class Alco PA /DL109/110. At no time was any EMD loco motive on the AT&SF were...

Alco's original twin engine PA locomotive was experimental. The PA locomotive was returned to Alco many times for modifications rebuilding and adjustments. The final spec no. to ATSF no 50 is DL109/110. Alco assigned the spec no's after the fact. The only other possible spec no. DL103 was assigned to...

The F2 was created as a stop gap measure to continue production while the problems with the D12 generator in the F3 were solved. That is why there was a short production run of the F2.

The ATSF FT's did not have the overhang you mentioned as in the close coupled drawbar connected Boston & Maine FT's . The ATSF FT's are very similar to the overhang of the F2/F3. ATSF FT's were all self contained A and B units with mu connections ,batteries rear steps, and couplers. The Boston &...

Watco has added another SW1500 to help with the increase in activity on the line. Also there is possible rebuilding of the line to double track for a commuter line.

The article i am referring in classic trains. is an actual interview from Milo M Schalla by his son then written by his son for classic trains. I think direct words from the Mr Schalla written down by his own son is far more telling and accurate..

My source is from Milo M Schalla the electrical engineer responsible for the upgrade of the D4 generator for use in F2 and design work on the D12 generator.for the F3. He was employed by EMC/EMD starting in 1941 He was responsible for many upgrades for the F2/F3 locomotives. From classic trains arti...

As to the chicken wire on F3/7 the early F7 had chicken wire then was changed to the Farr louvered screens/grills I think mid production of the F7. Many F3/7's were retrofitted with the Farr screens/grills. There is no reason why the DB"S on F3/7's cannot be interchanged they are mounted in the...

Since you do not have any real evidence of a D8 generator in the FT. You are also saying that the designers of the FT are wrong. You dismiss the fact that the WPB had limits on new designs of or improvements that would change part interchangeability shortly before and during WWII. The FT was out of ...

All my information is correct and is from 2005 thu 2015 from extra 2200 south issue 130 and from classic trains 2015. I took your information and researched it from historical documents and found nothing about a D8 main generator. Since some your information is over 30 plus years old there have been...

The D4 main generator was used in all FT,F2.E3 thru 7 unless a trade in locomotive was used. as in ATSF E8 that used the GE 5GT544 main generator from trade in locomotives. The E8 thru 9 used the D12 main generator. F3 thru F7 GP7 used the D12, F9, GP9 and E9 used the D14 main generator and again unl...

The FT internal layout is completely different. The FT would have been completely gutted and start from scratch to have anything similar to a F3 or F7. ATSF had the square dynamic brake box on the roof of the FT The D4 generator would not accept a higher rating so that will mean a new D12 generator ...
