Re: CSX Track Upgrades & Infrastructure of Pan Am

Sorry if I missed this. I realize CSX has started to upgrade Worcester to Ayer. Will this eventually be CTC with 50 MPH trains? Remote sidings? And does CSX have the same plan north of Yarmouth JCT to the end of PanAm in Maine? They surely must want to be able to do better than 10mph. They could upg...

When did B&M/ Guilford run its last train North of White River JCT up the CT river Line and when did that same portion lose its CTC? Up near Wells River there are still some searchlight signals.

Why did PC let a fire force closure of the Poughkeepsie bridge? That could have been helpful today. Im sure insurance would have helped them rebuild it.

From all the pics I have seen...this hump yard looked full and busy up until the end. So how did Guilford get rid of the traffic over night?

Thanks. I would be interested in joining the B&M Historical Society. Any links I need to get there? So what cause the loss for freight in the Boston area. (grown greatly in other areas) And was the Manchester Route preferred over the CT River Line when the freight volumes were higher...because i...

I can see how cutting the Mountain Div made some sense once the connection with D&H was obtained. However, what about faster routing options. Railroads could really compete with regional trucks if they had left many branches or alternate routes in place. Now a boxcar may travel hundreds of miles...

Pan Am (Lowell Line) through Manchester

Some questions about this line. When was it single tracked with CTC sidings? When was it cut a through route and downgraded to a mere local branch line? How did the traffic drops so much from a line that was once double tracked (for a reason)...down to a few cars a day now.

After researching Irving they seem like they would make good owners. But also G&W or Fortress. Fortress is turning FEC into a huge success story...I assume the same will happen to the recent purchase of the MM&A assets...or they would not have purchased it. Watco is prob not large enough for...

Who/what is Irving? Maybe NS will buy PanAm or G&W. Mellon seems to have stepped back to let Fink run operations...things look a little better at PanAm these days. Either way, wouldn't be a big deal to a railroad. If the lower road were to be restored, 30 days to pull up some gravel is hardly go...

Thanks for the all the great info. So the Mountain Div still has rail intact? Was MEC CTC to Waterville? Is it still? on both routes..lower and back? The Main Central shortline runs most of the lower route now...with PanAm only running into Brunswick? The Pan Am main from Portland to Lewiston and th...

CTC Single tracking of B&M and Maine Central Main Lines?

When were the B&M and Maine Central Lines converted to single track with CTC controlled sidings? Did each RR undertake the project themselves in the 60's..or did Guildford actually spend the money to do that after they took over? Also, related to above...when were most of the B&M and Maine C...

Re: PanAm Fitchburg Main Line?

Thanks for the info. Will any freight traffic start to use the rebuilt Conn River Line? Also, I have seen videos of early Guilford Trains flying on the Fitchburg main...did they just slowly let the infrastructure deteriorate? Did B&M run more freight on this line prior to 1980?
