Re: What happens if the Acela I doesn't make it to the finish line...

The Acela’s will be fine once the weather warms up, the extreme cold is just taking a toll on them. You guys are living a pipe dream if you think the Marc AEM7s will just fire up and run after sitting all of this time .

The slowness refers to computer restricted loading pattern of the diesel at no/slow speeds to achieve the emissions standards. They’ve always been known as slow to load, even before the emissions standards.. A lot of guys say GE stands for “Going Eventually.” The main difference with a P42 vs an EM...

Just curious... Is Amtrak's PTC so unreliable that it needs to be bypassed that frequently? From what I've previously seen in various POV videos taken along the corridor, it seems that it has a chronic problem of 'missing transponders'. (e.g. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CTGLDhYhEJk&t=600s h...

And my question about which 8 units are going to be converted into the 975x series still stands. It’s only been in the Bulletin Orders since 6/5. I’ll believe it when they are actually running in service, I’ve heard rumors that they were scrapping the project due to issues getting them to run corre...

Every time I ran one of the sets and made a suggestion, was told “it cost too much money to fix…” I would love to know how much the company didn’t listen to the BLET representatives that went to France when these things were being developed.

As someone who works on these things, I agree with Railjunkie. However I will say Id rather work on a P42 any day of the week then work on a ACS and deal with the Siemens "techs". Was looking through the Charger or whatever its called manual on the trusty I Pad. I have come to the conclus...

No real testing or crew training is happening at this point in time, I think they have unofficial been rebranded Acela 25 now :joy: .

From what I heard, it was a track circuit issue that affected 20 miles or so of track. Dispatcher was unable to display signals at the interlockings so trains needed verbal permission past stop signals. Can only run restricted speed with no signals so running 20 max for 20 miles will cause substant...

It does have a mini high level on both tracks that can fit at least 2 doubles, a few of the Acela’s use to stop at New London pre pandemic.

How likely is it that we’ll see a “soft launch” of at least three of the Avelia sets in a Regional timetable slot? Considering how long these trains have been idled for testing and evaluation I could see the marketing department itching to get them into public use and the operating department conce...

Yes, however it does not count towards any OT pay and would just most likely be an 8 hr company business day. Unless a serious offense is committed on a train, conductors know that the offender is usually just removed from one train then allowed on the next. Yes some conductors can be sticklers but ...

With fiber-optic cables dispatch could easily be moved to Cobble Hill. Likely scenario when they expand South Station. No way would you move it across the street to High Street. Just wondering if Keolis or Amtrak dispatch is less expensive or "better". No idea where the Mill River-Springf...

That’s a pretty senseless assumption to make, and what makes you think employees are paid “extra” if they have to appear in court? Mr. 8th Notch, at least from "back in my day" in the industry, which I also believe included Mr. Boylan's, any craft's Agreement called for pay when "Att...
