Providence visit next week; good spots to catch P&W action?

by Snowmojoe ¦  Mon Apr 23, 2018 3:22 pm ¦  Forum: Providence and Worcester Railroad ¦  Topic: Providence visit next week; good spots to catch P&W action? ¦  Replies: 2 ¦  Views: 3080

I'm going to be up in Providence for a business trip next week. What are some good spots in the area to (legally) catch the P&W in action? Optimally I'd like to get the ex-NYSW Dash-8s (they're still on the roster online) but I understand they may not be around (NECR?). Honestly any other freigh...

Sorry this is so old, but I'm waiting for something to happen at work, so here's an update: as far as I know, this coach is still here. His property was up for sale the last time I went by (still wouldn't mind getting my hands on that truck he's got...) When I talked to him years back, everything pr...

CHEX 18 in Carlstadt NJ

I am curious if anyone has some back story on this covered hopper - CHEX 18, marooned on an old siding in an industrial park in Carlstadt, NJ. Norfolk Southern switches the local active customers by way of the NJT Pascack Valley line. The switch to get into this industrial park is right by Wood-RIdg...

I'm going to be up in Providence for a business trip in early May. What are some good spots in the area to catch the P&W in action? I'd like to get the ex-NYSW Dash-8s (they're still on the roster online) but I understand they may not be around (they've been on the NECR lately I guess?) I'll hav...

Thanks for the input, everyone. Sorry for the late reply - I lost my password for a bit there and locked myself out. I am going to investigate the Quarry Lane crossing; seems like there might be something to that and maybe some good shots along the edge of that baseball field (if there isn't a fence...

The neighborhood's OK? I was up the line in the Plainfields not long ago and it didn't seem like the smartest place to be slinging $1000 worth of camera gear around. I realize Bound Brook isn't Plainfield but I'm just asking.

Good spots for rail fanning in the Somerville area

I started working down in the general Somerville/Bridgewater area a few months ago. Now that it's light out a little later, I'm starting to look around for opportunities to catch a freight or two. Raritan, Somerville, bridgewater, the western end of the Port Reading Secondary, Bound Brook? Google Ma...

Best places to (legally) railfan the M&E

I've recently switched jobs and as such it looks like my only real chance to do a little shooting/railfanning is going to be the M&E, likely on my way home from work. I used to do most of my shooting along CSX and the NYS&W on the way home from Weehawken and Jersey City home to Wyckoff. I've...

Freight customers on the Pascack Valley line?

Are there any freight customers left on the PVL north of, say, Rt. 46? I know there are some active customers in the Moonachie/Wood-ridge/East Rutherford area, but how far north do freights go at this point? The most likely candidate seems to be Kuiken Bros. lumber in Emerson, which I have seen get ...

Here's my own update: I rolled the dice today (Monday 3/7) and just took a quick look at Google Maps to see where it seems the SGLR stores some equipment. I decided to drive out to the intersection of Landing View Rd. and Metro Parkway in Fort Myers, and then cross over the tracks there (on Landing ...

Hi, I'm visiting the Fort Myers FL area for a few days, and I thought I'd maybe try to get out and catch some SGLR action while I'm here. Searches on the internet and within these forums turns up very little information newer than 2013 or 14. I did see one article from their CEO where he talks about...

There are photos and video on the NYSW facebook page showing 3618 working today (up in Binghamton I guess but I don't know for sure.) I guess it's actually back in service.

I was curious about what it's like working as a conductor/engineer for NJ Transit. Or anything, I guess, even MOW work or something like that. I have never worked for a railroad. I recently got laid off from my corporate job and I'm looking around and my options. To be 100% honest the idea of going ...
