Re: NEC All Station Stop Service

That is an assumption that cannot be made yet. We have no idea wat Amtrak's plans are and we have no idea the amount of passenger demand. There is no way to know if enough new traffic will fill the expanded Acela-2 services or may not ! Amtrak could always cut the number of NJT trains to fill the l...

I don't think we would need every Regional train stopping at Old Saybrook, Mystic, and Westerly. Old Saybrook and Mystic probably fall a little more under the category where while the places are huge, at the same time, there aren't many corporations in the immediate area. The station itself in OSB ...

Heather its of no use arguing with someone who never operated either. You don't need to be an engineer to understand how to improve transit. Just like you don't have to be a framer or a roofer to understand how to build a better house. The idea that someone has to work for the railroad to be able t...

Electrification to New Milford???? We've already established that wire to Danbury might save about three minutes running time. Of all the things to spend money on, electrification of the Danbury branch and any oft-studied, never implemented because of HRRC extensions to New Milford ain't it. Plus i...

I believe that Amtrak intends to run all the Northeast Regionals as "all stops" and take the "major cities" service that you mention and convert all of those trains to Acela . I'm not quite sure I can imagine every Regional stopping at the Old Saybrooks and Mystics of the world....

Oh, the Shuttles absolutely need to go. I don’t know that I would give all of their slots over to CTRail immediately though, since those are valuable for future Inland Regionals. Some day, when I-84 is rebuilt, the Hartford Line can run double-track from New Haven all the way to Springfield, and th...

Electrifying parts of the MBTA, especially the Providence Line is a no-brainer and should have been done 20 years ago. Generally, if you have the density to require a lot of 5+ car diesel trains, you should electrify. Lines that have less ridership would generally be well served by 4-car or shorter ...

I fully support all stops local service for Amtrak, as slow as it would be. The current schedules make no sense, as there are some station pairs that are difficult or impossible to connect between on one train, and others, like Mystic, that barely get any service. I would make 2 categories of Region...

The Brookvilles barely handle their shuttle assignments and are already in the process of getting an overhaul including prime mover replacement. They would not be able to handle the longer consist required for the larger passenger load involved, and especially not with the multilevels that the MTA ...

This is good news from a highway perspective, but yes, it's bad news from the perspective of CTRail. With the FRA now allowing alternate crash worthiness standards, I wonder if they would allow a signalling system that allowed two DMU-based trains on the viaduct at the same time, but only one Amtrak...

STOP dreaming of wire to POK on the Hudson Line,NOT NEEDED,same for the Danbury Branch. So I should stop dreaming of improving a really well built line that already has a lot of service on it, and has massive potential for more service with overhead electrification, but you're going to dream of re-...

Hate to blow a hole in your dreams, But IIRC the Park Avenue tunnel is not tall enough to string catenary wire in it. There is also no more room to lower the floor of the tunnel as that as was done in the early 1990s and there is an obstruction Who proposed putting overhead wire in the Park Ave Tun...

If you're saying profit after depreciation of the capital expense, then sure. If you mean bringing in more money than the operating expenses, then no business would actually do that, at least not intentionally. Correct, although you've just hit a MUCH larger issue with Amtrak. In many cases, they d...

Killing off the direct service to Wassaic would be a pretty unpopular move. Don't forget that Wassaic is one of the few direct connections to the city that residents of the Taconic, Berkshire, and Litchfield Hills have, and as a rider of those trains I can tell you that they are well patronized. It...

Interesting idea. It certainly would provide some more long-distance connectivity to the Detroit area from the East.
