Rock Island Into Conrail?

 by Jmusolf ¦  Fri Jul 08, 2016 2:08 pm ¦  Forum: Conrail - 1976 to the Present ¦  Topic: Rock Island Into Conrail? ¦  Replies: 3 ¦  Views: 5728

Instead of abandoning or selling off all of the Rock Island to western companies was it ever a possibility for what was left of the CRIP to be merged into Conrail and be ran by the feds like the other bankrupt lines that made up Conrail?

Now that gives me another idea, why didn't ICG consider buying the Spine Line when it was up for sale in the 1980s? Probably because SOO and CNW drove up the price since they both really wanted it but I have to wonder if ICG bid on it as well. But that would've gave IC access to not only CRIP's busi...

I guess they're not done with CSX either!

Re: IC Takeover of Chicago Central and Pacific

I vaguely remember reading something about IC being one of the bidders for the C&NW when it was up for sale in the 90s even though UP owned a good chunk of its' stock by then.

So maybe it was a response to not getting the North Western.

Would you have a map of the St. Charles Air Line or point to one online showing all of the connections. http://industrialscenery.blogspot.com/2015/02/st-charles-air-line-railroad.html?m=1" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; Nothing to do with Minnesota at this point. Here's som...

Now another question about the SD30s... are they currently being stored? Haven't seen any pictures of them in a while...

IC/KCS merger in the 1990s

Anyone know why this merger was called off? Would've been interesting to see what would've happened if this merger had went through, I wonder if CN would have still gotten involved later on. http://articles.chicagotribune.com/1994-07-19/news/9407200101_1_non-rail-operations-illinois-central-rail-net...

Doesn't CN/IC also go through Decatur? I haven't heard good things about working for CN but it's another option at least.

Conductor Training School with CP

by Jmusolf ¦  Wed Oct 01, 2014 9:04 pm ¦  Forum: Employment ¦  Topic: Conductor Training School with CP ¦  Replies: 0 ¦  Views: 1755

I start my training as a conductor trainee next week with CP in St. Paul and could any rail vets on here give me any general advice or words of wisdom for starting out? Just things that would be useful as a rookie or things you wish you had known when you started as a new employee. Anything you have...

Another paint scheme I've seen, but only rarely: white StL&H lettering on a red background, similar to the CP Rail System paintjob. I imagine only a few locomotives received this scheme, as the St. Lawrence and Hudson only operated for a few years before being returned to the CP fold. Looks lik...

Decided to check out the CN line in Lyle/Albert Lea today but I didn't see much. Granted, I was only there for an hour or so. Can anyone tell me more info on CN's operations on the old Cedar River Railroad line from Albert Lea to Waterloo? Mainly wondering just how active it is and how many jobs run...

Noticed while looking some stuff up about NS that they had a line to Des Moines, IA. Can anyone tell me information about this line? Is this on trackage rights thru BNSF or another operator or is it their own track? Also how active is this line as far as NS trains go? Never knew NS went to this part...

Thanks for the info. I may stop by next week early in the morning and just wait for something to show up. Any good suburbs? I've tried St. Anthony and New Brighton, but I was wondering if there was any where else on the line westward to New Brighton.

Regarding TC&W, they could sure use a friendly way through the Twin Cities metro before garnering the real Class I interest. (See the Kenilworth thread in Midwest Railfan for backstory.) Also, it doesn't really go anywhere, just serves as a feeder. It The DM&E that CP owns doesn't really go...

I guess I'm just used to anywhere in Southern MN seeming "dead" compared to areas like the Twin Cities or Chicago area. I'll have to check Albert Lea/Lyle, MN out sometime and see what they got. Anywhere in Southern MN that isn't CP/UP dominated is definitely worth checking out in my opini...
