Was the new sleeper on the NY section? We took the Boston section of the LSL 9/15 (449) and 9/25 (448) and both were Viewliner I's (which I prefer, having the toilet in the room).

Just completed a trip on the SWC 9/15 CHI-FLG and return on the CZ on 9/23 GJT - CHI. Both trains had sleepers sold out (CZ did have 1 roomette available as far as Denver). SWC was 20 min late into Flagstaff due to being delayed at ABQ by a tardy Rail Runner. CZ was 2 hours late into CHI due mainly ...

Also, there are some beautiful trees occupying the median farther in, whose removal would incur plenty of backlash. An interesting dilemma for the tree-huggers: trees or electric rail transportation? They actually can be relocated to line the tracks without killing them if done right. Exactly, we w...

I agree going via Cynwyd makes more sense than the roundabout route via the tunnel then the former RDG line to 16th St. Jct. and the line to Norristown. It would mean fixing the bridge across the Schuylkill not sure what is involved there.

Planners probably do not go for color named expressways because map makers typically use color to define class of road. One could have the red, blue and green expressways but coloring a map to match the names wouldn't be good. There are certainly streets with color based names. Funny. In the Wester...

I saw earlier in this thread mention that the single track bottleneck in Dorchester was supposed to be relieved when I-93 was rebuilt. I wonder how that happens since most of the time interstates get rebuilt they get wider if anything due to new safety standards etc. This is probably far fetched but...

SEPTA stil lhas the Broad Street Express on their web site so I assume it still runs (unless temporarily suspended due to COVID). I rode this back in 1983 to the World Series game 3 between the Phillies and the Orioles, in brand new Kawasaki B-4 cars. A great way to get to the game and turned out to...

I did once have a business trip that involved overnight Amtrak travel. In 1985 I was sent out to a customer in Davenport IA a cement plant where our control system would occasionally reset usually resulting in conveyor belts dumping cement all over the place which for some reason annoyed the custome...

Re: Why does Amtrak still serve North Philadelphia & Cornwells Heights?

Seems like a good reason to bring back the Clockers which logically should be run by NJT. If MBTA can run into Rhode Island and SEPTA into Delaware there should be no reason something can't be worked out to have NJT run to 30th St. Then it could service all these intermediate stops and leave Amtrak ...

Mr. Norman, sounds like I have another reason to take the train rather than fly (unless I am going overseas, if that is ever allowed again in my lifetime). I even heard of a rumor of planes with no windows at all (which is probably better from the structural standpoint) and video screens instead sho...

Seems to me that of they are planning more service, they are going to need a better setup in Richmond. What are the plans for expanding the Richmond station (presumably Staples Mill unless a new station site is found)?

Only the Lake Shore and Silver service are still carrying both a dining car and cafe car - maybe these trains will get one thing while the trains using a split cafe/dinette or cross country cafe will get something else. One issue you have with the LSL is the split at Albany. Currently the diner run...

Whatever happened to the plan to extend the siding at Wells and add a second platform? The NNEPRA web site states this project would be under way in spring of 2021. Well it is now summer and I don't hear of anything happening.

In talking about using the Acelas elsewhere, one thing people forget is these are high level platform only trains. A lot of the suggested alternate routes have low level platforms so it becomes a non starter. Modifying the Acela sets to have steps would probably be prohibitive.
