Re: The Pascack Valley Line Thread

I saw on that stub siding in Hillsdale, either 1 or 2 flat cars with rails on them. It looked like just one flat car with rails, but could’ve been two. Couldn’t tell as I drove past how many cars. Four grade crossings are being replaced in Hillsdale this summer per https://thepressgroup.net/four-hi...

Anybody know why that siding thru Hillsdale was removed? With the current bi-directional service on the PVL that track would’ve come in handy as a passing siding The (passing) siding was cut back when the population in the area was on a pretty sharp decline which lasted until early 2000 IIRC. Also,...

I believe that siding is actually in Hillsdale the next town over. That's correct, the siding begins just after the line crosses the Pascak Brook, which serves as the south-eastern boundary between Hillsdale and Westwood. I do know that siding was longer, before being cut back to where it is now. I...

Pretty sad how this operation played out. I noticed ties laid between the gauge at the interchange track as far back as December '17, not sure if the section of rail Sully mentioned was removed then, but it sure is now along with the tie plates and joint bars. Passed by the "HQ" a few week...

Is there a better resource for NYS&W operations aside from FaceCook (which no matter the poster age, is all Juvenile blather)?

Anyone catch the planned hi-rail inspection on Saturday? Made several stops along the Chester, HB, and D&R branches from 10-Noon, unable to detect any activity. Aside from the the "Begin M&E Rlwy" sign removed at Lake Jct (MP41.4), ownership appeared unchanged with all of M&E's...

Where will the new operation be based from? e.g. Where will they store & fuel locomotives, where will the crews go on duty? The M&E seems comparatively better equipped, having their shop right alongside Baker interlocking. I recall HO-2 would regularly refuel Tuesday mornings at the Morristo...

6 axles? I'm hearing NJT hollering and picturing units on the ground while running the D&R and some parts of the HB. I can't imagine what the benefit would be here vs an equivalent HP Geep. Still, hopeful it's true!

Heard it was track 5, which is pretty common for 1614 (I ride it with some frequency). Anyone know if there was a cast iron or concrete bumper on this track? Hope the engineer is OK.

Great news, Rudy! Had an inkling the M&E would be at the MMA auction for this power. The 7u's are some pretty neat units with their "topeka" cabs and "liberator" exhaust stack setup. Was under the impression that MU and A/C was added during the rebuild, but they retained the ...

Anyone have an idea what the plan for #22 is? There was a lot of work done a few years back when they pulled the MK Sulzer and installed a 567. I recall there were issues getting the long hood to fit back on, but seems that was resolved. I don't know if it ever ran after the transplant. Love to know...

Just caught a brand new NC SD70ACe #1032 on a hot BNSF UPS train on the Stockton subdivision in California headed to the port of Oakland. Seems the hotter the train, the more likely you'll catch foreign power. The UP coal drags in the area are always solid UP power.

Unreal they only use 2 servers to controller all that territory. More so that both machines are located at the MMC and not one of the many nearby Data Centers in Secaucus or North Bergen (who remained online with power throughout Sandy). I'd bet they're also running NJTs preferred operating system w...

A WS crew had the 99 built and backed into an MC track by about 4PM. Think the crew signed up at 5:30, had the train moving west by 5:38. I thought it pretty much the norm for them to leave anywhere between 3 and 6PM.
