No kidding? Where is that crane located? I wonder if anyone has approached them about it. My wife's family is heavily involved in the Brooks historical society (train station, etc). Perhaps my wife could put a bug in someone's ear about it. Yeah, I love the steam-up. It's just one of those places wh...

Thanks for the info. I grew up directly across from the station on Waconda, brown house with a sign that said Davis Flowers (that's my mom). I still know a few people out there, but I agree, you never know who is hanging out there. I usually pack a .357 when I go out to mom's just in case, and never...

"The rest are longer drives, and not destinations in their own right as much as additional stops on longer trips. The only one on that list that I have a burning desire to do is the Eagle Cap train, since it uses the old Lewis & Clark Explorer RDCs." I would say that if it is the last ...

For the last 9 years or so, I have been hearing rumors/statements from varying different persons that there has been discussion of bulding a "museum" behind the Antique Powerland property and moving the three Portland steam engines (4449, 700, 197) to said museum/engine house for all futur...

My appologies if I offended you. Since the topic of this thread is about moving Amtrak trains to the old OE line, when you mentioned problems with tight curves, aka speed restricitions, on the Willamette Valley line (can you say horseshoe curve next to highway 22?) I thought you were referring to ru...

Ok, so when you say "not quite" are you implying that the Geere line never connected to the SP line? If that is the case, I have pictures to prove it if need be. Also, I did not mention running amtrak on the Geere line. I was thinking more like a commuter, rdc, MAX type line, and we're tal...

Concerning jsut the last section of your post about the Geere line, it actually runs from the willamette valley railroad that you mention, all the way to Cordon road. uit used to run all the way across town and connect with the SP, now UP, line, thus connecting Salem with Stayton, Mt angel and Silve...

Not sure if anyone has heard, but they are also approving a study of extendding the WES system to Salem. So, if that were to happen, how would those two system swork togeather, along wiht the P&W freight trains. My personal oppinion is that they would have to stick with one or the other passenge...

Well, there was an "excursion" train running from portland to astoria a couple years ago, a imited run summer train call teh lewis and clark exporer, Ithink. I believe it used rdc's. Also, for along time there was a short excursion train that ran on the oregon coast, possibly run by POTB r...

Boy, I'm really jealous of you guys. I've been following this project for a couple of years now, and wouldn't you know it, I shipped out to Ft Sill on my way to Iraq last week. Totally missed out on seeing the WES actually start running. I love trains (and helicopters, thus my current situation!!!) ...

I live in Salem. I have been folowing this for a couple years. I have heard they are testng the signals and crossings, but I think they are using a freight diesel, borrowed from Portland & Western, who they will share the line with. I don't think they have started testing the DMUs yet. I'm looki...
