Re: Why does Amtrak still serve North Philadelphia & Cornwells Heights?

Were Clockers subsidized by State of New Jersey or costs reimbursed at least, given NJT weekly/monthly passes were honored and most ridership was NJT commuters? Service was not 403b. that was the end of the clockers essentially, dispute over how much Amtrak was paid for what turned out to be a lot ...

We may have reached the point where the market can support two levels of service, as suggested above, with expresses breaking the 90-minute barrier PHL-HBG by skipping as many intermediate stations (except Paoli and Lancaster) as necessary to achieve that, followed about 10 minutes later by a stopp...

I think eliminating Parkesburg is a non-starter unless SEPTA service is extended back to Parkesburg. Chester County has been pushing for SEPTA service to Atglen with Parkesburg and Coatesville being additional stops. Amtrak does pick up some commuters at both stops going both directions in the morn...

Amtrak doesn't need to run to Philly Int'l Airport. Septa Regional Rail already serves the terminals so they should continue. As for the Keystone Corridor, I would love to see 110-125 mph speeds in more spots on the Keystone Corridor besides in Lancaster and Dauphin Counties like maybe rest of Malv...

just a reminder, this is what smucker is signing the harrisburg line up for https://fusion.inquirer.com/transportation/septa-funding-regional-rail-subways-trolleys-turnpike-coronavirus-20200819.html he seems to be under some spell that there's a magic pot of money that Amtrak will pay SEPTA or Penns...

does smucker ride the train?

political speculation: with biden winning, this seems like worse timing than ever since if there were ever a time Amtrak would have the resources to maintain infrastructure it will be the next four years.

I may have missed it, but has anyone mentioned.... GASP Private operation? CtDOT contracts out CTRail. Or you could hire Brightline. Based on the politics involved it would seem they have SEPTA in mind rather than a capable private operator. Keep in mind this is infrastructure and not the train ope...

There's no doubt amtrak could be better but there's no evidence that smucker has a concrete proposal to Improve the line. Leslie Richard's was a do nothing in her tenure at penndot. Id question where smuckers 100 million per year number comes from because the keystone doesn't lose anywhere near that...

the middletown station is moving to the edge of town but still walkable to the center since a new street is being cut through. it is adjacent to the airport parking lot and the original plan called for the existing airport shuttle to make the train station stop. additionally mount joy is a high leve...

I’d definitely like a regular weekend BAL-HAR run - perhaps some of the municipalities and tourist boards could come up with a funding scheme - but you’re all correct in that it would have limited utility as a daily train. Perhaps if Amtrak ever gets kicked off CSX over Sandpatch, or if the Pennsyl...

1) Federal portion of Portal Bridge
2) Federal Portion of Long Bridge
3) CREATE or other Chicago access projects to allow current trains to run on time (to/from MI and the East) and add new trains
4) electrification of LAX-SAN

Worth noting, Swa is the largest domestic airline by passenger volume . I like to fly them, they are not the cheapest but they are flexible and easy to deal with.

Totally refundable totally changeable ticket is essentially an invitation to squatters to buy tickets that they have less intent of using. I actually remember people bragging they would buy like 5 tickets and cancel 4 of them at the last minute. This hurts capacity since that's now 4 seats that may...

If fares don't go down it might be time to talk about forcing amtrak to give up slots on the NEC to a competitor. Maybe we should nationalize the railroad. Oh, wait...... I'm sure after regional monopolies flopped it seemed like a good idea. why not one airline, what could go wrong? maybe even one ...
