Re: MTA LIRR - Reactivating the Rockaway Beach Branch

It doesn't make sense to spend $2B more on a subway connection (which I'm assuming you're for?) when everything to connect it to LIRR is right there. Also, there's no reason the route couldn't be retrofitted for subway later if the tunnel connection to Queens blvd. can will ever be built. That's a ...

Believe I saw that setup running east on the main line at Mineola this morning around 8.30am, went by too quick to take pic.

An intermediate station near the intersection of Route 6 and Saw Mill Hill Rd. would probably have a chance at picking up some ridership from people in Ridgebury who are currently driving to Southeast, at least if the parking is free. If such a service were to operate as an extension of the Wassaic...

They'd have to build a couple hundred feet of new track on the Brewster end to connect the lines, presumably right around here https://goo.gl/maps/dCus8LaLj5G2 Using the google map linked above, would it be easier to make the connection from the HRRC line to Southeast instead? While not as big as B...

Re: Amtrak to Long Island: MTA agrees to explore

With NYS paying for Empire Service it would seem the most likely to be extended which would require facilities to turn the DM engines. This seems to lead to Montauk and Greenport being talked about as they have such facilities available and re-habitable, respectively, plus tourist attractions. Ronko...

As mentioned previously, extending NYS paid for Amtrak run Empire Service onto LI does have merit for access to Jamaica, with its connection to JFK airport, and allowing for easier access to colleges upstate. The problem seem to be what to do with the trains after that, as the engine needs to swap e...

lol, that is the same link and I did read that. It was the "preliminary" that made me ask how real this is and look for additional info - I should have searched instead of scrolling, as I missed this thread. Thanks for adding my post to this thread.

MNCR to NYP for real or just more talk?

I was under the impression NYP is at or near capacity, so is this assuming ESA is finished and Amtrak gets new tunnels/Moynihan Station? Or just talk? https://www.nbcnewyork.com/news/local/MTA-Amtrak-Reach-Agreement-Metro-North-Expansion-Project-Bronx-New-York-Penn-Station-504697292.html?_osource=So...

With most east bound trains going to use the southern track (main line 2), is the LIRR considering installing stairs on the west side of Deer Park's pedestrian bridge going all the way down to the street/parking level to help relieve congestion on the platform and stairs while allowing riders to spr...

If this works, might the MTA consider refurbishing/reopening the Woodhaven station on the Atlantic Terminal Branch? Under the Pataki administration, there were "talks" of extending the Atlantic Terminal Branch into lower Manhattan. One of the options was to connect this branch to an existi...

I do not know if those rails and ties are going to be used, but sure looks like they graded from where those are laying INTO the siding to about where the current siding ends (starts just west of Commack Road, stone cars for Giaquinto Masonry?). I then asked if the switch into this siding is moved ...

Sure this recent talk about such a tunnel will go nowhere, but I have always favored the original alignment (creation of PA NY/NJ) between Brooklyn and Staten Island as it could now be built multi-level to allow freight traffic and connect SIRT to the rest of the subway system allowing not only redu...

Carll's Path and Commack Road will NOT be eliminated, and the railroad track you see with wooden ties is an old siding that will be torn out of the ground. It was double-tracked at the old Deer Park station and they ripped the non-electrified track out. They will renew the crossing plates and add t...

Crossed over the Carl's Path crossing today. East of the crossing just slightly past where the old Pinter Brothers switch was there is now a segment of track (couldn't tell how long) that has been laid on the south side of the new roadbed but using what looks like wooden ties not concrete. Not only...

I don't see anything coming out of this study. In its current form, the line is more or less useless for passenger service. Even with Jamaica about to take off, and even with LIC blowing up as it has, I doubt there's enough demand between the two to warrant the resumption of LIRR service as is.... ...
