Any idea what's going to happen to the ROW now?

CSX will let it sit for a bit to see what the prospects of rail returning to that site or the park just beyond. If nothing for two years, they will file for abandonment or sell it to the state.

I am pretty sure that CSX does not own the line...likely owned by MBTA. Permission for the bike path in Danvers was needed from MBTA as they controlled the line, even though it was freight only

The state owns the tracks from Salem to Peabody where CSX then owns the remnants of the S. Reading Branch south of there.

The line did go straight at that location. Eastman Gelatine added that section of building and the railroad adjusted the line to accommodate the new building. Not sure of the date of the expansion. The line was straight into the 1960s, when I was a kid. I am guessing the 1970s was when the change happened.

Per a post on the Facebook group (CSX NE + B&E Railfans), crews are currently working to repair a small bridge at Flint St. in Salem. The poster spoke with the work crew and a CSX supervisor, and stated the only info they had was that "CSX was repairing the line with the possibility of trains returning to it soon but they had no info about new potential customers." Good stuff!

You beat me to it!

Not much more info than that. While it would be nice for some new traffic sources, the pessimist in me thinks it'll either be no new traffic, or to capture C&D material from some future demolition of Rousselot.

My guess is they have something lined up-- don't typically work on a dormant line , much less a bridge, without some plan (that is unless you're the government). Stranger things have happened I suppose so we'll wait and see.

It’s been a little bit now, has anyone heard any updates or seen anything related to this rehabilitation job?

Interesting. Wonder if they just shored up the bridge on the Salem side of the line? Apparently part of the ROW in Peabody was cleared just last week as well.

I think that this was possibly done to clear the power line access....
I live near the gel plant so if there's any activity, I'll report it.
