Just received the March/April edition of the Teamster magazine in the mail, and was quite surprised to see a CSX loco, and an ABF tractor trailer sitting side by side!! We had heard rumors for a while that there was a merger in the works between the BLE and the Teamsters, and this just confirmed them. Does this mean we drivers have to stop ragging at the railroads for stealing our freight? Naahh, never gonna happen!!
Don't know the details of the merger ( H&W and Pension) but it seems to be a natural fit that two transportation unions would merge together to create a powerful voice in D.C. for our common interests. Judging from some of the posts in the previous forum, you BLE members could use a little bit bigger stick when it comes to safety and maintence issues. Hope we can help see it through.
Welcome aboard!!

Yep they are one.

Amazing, in the 60's the truckers were the ones hanging chains from overhead bridges so to break as many car windshields on those open autoracks because they didn't like the idea the railroads were taking away their business!

The merger between the IBT and the BLE(now referred to as the BLET-Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and Trainmen) was effected in January. More details can be accessed by goint to either the BLET site, at
www.ble.org/ or at the Teamsters site, www.teamsters.com/ and then selecting the rail conference area under the area: Select Trade Division/Conference. This should provide some info.
