A Boston based company has announced plans to lease overhauled F40s to commuter rail lines! Sounds like a very interesting plan, and goes to show the versatility of EMD engines. It also makes you wonder which F40s they're going to purchase for this, whether they're from MBTA, Metra, LTEX, or even a few museums! And who's to say they can stop at F40s? Why not save and restore other stored diesels for commuter service?

BOSTON — A new company has announced plans to provide locomotive leasing for commuter rail agencies, saying it will offer proven, like-new units on flexible lease terms.

Rolling Stock Solutions announced the venture last week, with initial plans to lease fully overhauled F40PH locomotives.

“Having spent two decades at the intersection of government operations and finance, I know well the imperative for agency leaders to deliver reliable, best-in-class transit service on a tight budget,” CEO Phil Puccia said in a press release. “We believe the RSS lease fleet provides commuter rail operators with a new, flexible resource to sustain and strengthen their service posture at a reasonable cost.”

Just a guess, but source of these units might be retired VIA F40PH's, as Siemens Chargers have been arriving for over six months as part of the VIA Fleet Renewal programme.

Coincidentally, the VIA F40PH fleet was rebuilt by the same CAD Railway Industries that's partnered with Rolling Stock Solutions...
