I found this on October 1 at the Hudson Avenue station (formerly Highwood) site in Englewood. I don't know what it is, but I get a feeling it has something to do with the old station since its situated right on the downtown platform.

Anyone happen to know what this is/was?

Adam -

My guess it's an iron support column for the one-time platform canopy.

There are 2 very similar looking old support columns on the Westbound side of the Upper Montclair station platform on the ex-ERIE Greenwood Lake Branch ( NJT Montclair-Boonton Line ).

I have an old post card view of the station taken around 1910 which shows an object like this just to the left of the station building. The upper part of it is painted white in this view. Looks like there may have been something mounted on top of it also. A Thomas Campbell was station agent there at that time.
